A rare signed contract for Clark Gable's first speaking role as Rance Brett in The Painted Desert, 1931, the mimeographed typescript Minimum Contract For Artists completed with carbon hand-written details, between Clark Gable and Pathé Studios, dated 12th July, 1930, the agreement setting out terms and conditions for Gable's role as Bud, including a salary of Seven hundred and fifty dollars, the term of employment beginning ...on or about the 4th day of August, with an extra carbon typescript rider at the foot of the contract Artist is to receive not less than fifth (5th) mention on the main Credid [sic] title, signed in black ink Clark Gable, with personal details added in blue ink in an unknown hand, telephone No: SU5101, Age: 30, Married: Yes and Citizen U.S.: Yes, 1p.
