Each work with 3,264 colour photographs. Illustrated paper covers, the first work with a cloth spine, as issued. Original prohibited items with labels, a toy gun and a bullet-shaped lighter, and books all laid in one cardboard case customised by the artist.
1 OF ONLY 10 COPIES OF THE SELF-PUBLISHED FIRST VERSION, AND A SIGNED COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, EACH WITH ONE OF THE MOST DESIRABLE PROHIBITED ITEMS IN THE SERIES: the blue plastic toy gun, and the bullet-shaped lighter. Meindertsma produced the first version of Checked Baggage as her graduation project for the Design Academy of Eindhoven. In this version, published the year before the Soeps edition, all the same items are reproduced, but the colour-printing is brighter; it includes a sixteen page section of travel tips, illustrated by Meindertsma and collaborators, which does not appear in the published edition. The Photobook, vol. II, p.287 ('AT ONCE SERIOUS AND FARCICAL ... raises issues wider than the inconvenience of travel security'). (2)
