Lot Essay

This is Roberts' most elaborate version of this subject, of which four other watercolours and three oils are recorded (see H. Guiterman and B. Llewellyn, David Roberts, London, 1986, no. 63). The church was used as a grain store in Roberts' time.

We are grateful to Briony Llewellyn for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
