MAYAN CARVED CONTAINER
LATE CLASSIC, CA. A.D. 550 - 950
of rounded form, deeply molded along the sides with two repeated bands of twelve glyphs including a reference to fresh green 'May' tobacco, molded on each side with the head of the God Pax, with an aged physiognomy, Roman nose and scroll-marked eye, wearing elaborate jewelry and pectoral and complex plumed headdress within a quadripartite portal, covered in cream and red pigment.
