AN UNUSUAL DOUCAI OGEE-FORM BOWL
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN DOUBLE CIRCLES AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)

The bowl raised on a straight circular foot, decorated around the bulbous lower section in green, yellow and iron-red enamels, outlined in soft shades of blue with four floral sprays including camelia and peaches, all beneath lotus backets to the wide everted rim
7 1/8 in. (18.1 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Very few bowls of this unusual design appear to have been published. Compare a similar bowl in the collection of Helen and Peter Lin, illustrated in the Smithsonian Institute catalogue, Joined Colors: Decoration and Meaning in Chinese Porcelain - Ceramics from Collectors in the Min Chiu Society, Washington D.C., 1993, p. 101, no. 30; see also one sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 29 November 1977, lot 187; and another, 23 October 2005, lot 463.
