Lot Essay

The handsome Egyptian reeded cheval screens, probably supplied for the banqueting hall hearths, reflect the French fashion popularised by the brass-enriched screen in Thomas Hope's collection, that he illustrated in Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807 (pl.28, fig.4).
