HOGARTH, William (1697-1764) and Thomas COOK. Hogarth Restored. The Whole Works of the Celebrated Willam Hogarth, as Originally Published: with a Supplement, consisting of such of his Prints as were not Published in a Collected Form. 2° (605 x 435mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece and 110 engraved images on 94 sheets (only, lacking, as often, 'Before and After') by Cook after Hogarth, 2 folding. (Occasional light spotting or marking, generally only affecting margins, light offsetting from portrait onto title, a few plates with minor tears.) Contemporary half red roan [free endpapers watermarked 1808], printed title-label on upper board, spine gilt in compartments, lettered in one, applied gilt morocco oval cartouche with Mansfield crest in upper compartment, uncut (rubbed and scuffed, upper board-edges bumped and bent along their lengths). Provenance: David William, third Earl of Mansfield (1777-1840, bookplate; crest of the Earls of Mansfield on spine).
A FRESH, UNCUT COPY in a contemporary binding of Cook's edition of Hogarth's works, including the celebrated series 'A Harlot's Progress', 'A Rake's Progress', and 'Marriage à la Mode'. For Cook's 1802 edition, cf. Brunet III, col. 250; Lowndes p. 1081.
