Lot Essay

Inscribed on the box Meiji sanjunana nen nigatsu juninichi [The twelveth day of February in the 37th year of the Meiji era (1904)], Kogo Heika yori gohairyo [a present from the Empress]. It would seem that the vases were presented as a gift from Empress Sho Ken Ko Tai Go.
