Lot Essay

The high quality of workmanship on this bottle would indicate that it is almost certainly a product of the Palace Workshops in Beijing.

Gourds represent fertility and ample progeny, given the number of fruits that grow from a single vine each season.

For another bottle of this popular form, compare a blue overlay white glass example sold in our New York Rooms, Important Chinese Snuff Bottles from the J & J Collection part IV, 22 March 2007, lot 26.
