This is a period copy after Jean Petitot's celebrated enamel of a lady called Mrs Jane Middelton (1645-1692), formerly in the Walpole and Burdett-Coutts collections, now in the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm (inv. NMB991), illustrated in M. Olausson (ed.), Europeiskt Miniatyrmaleri, Stockholm, 1994, p. 41, fig. 16.
