Lot Essay

Dating to circa 1929, the present work was probably executed in either Tréboul or Dieppe. Eric Newton (Christopher Wood 1901-1930) London, 1938, lists several similar drawings, with the same measurements.

The detail with which he has depicted the unidentified location and boat illustrates the importance of the view and can be related to Wood's delight at the similarities he discovered between Brittany and Cornwall during his first visit in 1929.
