MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY, Felix (1809-1847). Autograph letter signed ('Felix Mendelssohn-B') to Henriette Bünau (née Grabau), Leipzig, 18 March 1839, one page, 8vo, on a bifolium, integral address leaf, annotated by recipient in pencil.
A performance of Haydn's Jahreszeiten in Leipzig: Mendelssohn asks the recipient to undertake the soprano role at the next concert in the performance of 'Spring' from the Seasons, adding that he cannot precisely remember the compass of the role ('Ich erinnere mich nicht genau wie die Lage der Partie ist'). Henriette Bünau's rather bitter annotation complains at Mendelssohn's last-minute arrangement of affairs ('Mit Ausnehmen des Paulus ist er den ganzen Winter nicht einmal bei mir gewesen, sondern hat mir nur immer auf den allerletzten Augenblick sagen laßen, was ich singen sollte').
Henriette Bünau-Grabau was a soprano and singing teacher well known in Leipzig circles; Mendelssohn wrote the Lied ohne Worte, op.38 no.2 and the song 'Was will die einsame Träne' for her, and she was among the first permanent professors at his Leipzig Conservatoire in 1843.
