Median 2° (326 x 230mm). Collation: [1-1210 1312 14-1710 1812] (1/1r tabula,1/3r text, 18/10v colophon, 18/11-12 blank). 184 leaves, with the two final blanks. 38 lines. Type: 1:110R2, 110 Greek (fo. 17/8v). 2- to 7-line initial spaces. Two pinholes visible in many corners, some contemporary MS quiring. 17th-century English calf, double fillet border and Fitzwilliam coat-of-arms in gilt on sides (rebacked preserving much of earlier backstrip, a little scuffed at extremities). Provenance: W.M. Second edition, reprinting Sweynheym and Pannartz's Rome edition which had appeared earlier the same year. The works of St. Cyprian, a pagan rhetorician converted to christianity whose writings display his sober judgement and skills as an administrator and pastoral leader, remained popular throughout the Middle Ages and well into the Renaissance. Among his works is the fantastical tale of the transfer of the head of St. John the Baptist to Angers at the behest of King Pepin.
