FINE PAIRED PORTRAITS OF PRESIDENT CLEVELAND AND THE FIRST LADY. On June 2, 1886, in the midst of his first term, Grover Cleveland became the only President to be married in the White House when he and Frances Folsom took their wedding vows in the Blue Room. The new First Lady was the youngest to grace the White House and the only President's wife to serve in that station in two non-consecutive terms. In this fine sepia portrait image, the President's expression is one of striking self-confidence, while the image of the young First Lady in a high collared dress readily displays her innocent beauty. It is extremely unusual to find paired photographs, both inscribed on the same day, as attested by the early owner's notes on versos.
