The model for the present bookcase was created as part of the furnishings Prouvé designed for the Ecole Nationale Professionelle in Metz. The school commissioned the bookcase in various sizes, with and without drawers and with two or three uprights. Prouvé also supplied the school with chairs, armchairs, tables, couches and desks.
