Note: He Lei (1916-1978) was a native of Guangdong Province. Beginning at the age of 15, he studied painting with Gao Jianfu closely and gained a excelled in painting meticulously flowers, birds, insects, fish and other animals; he was especially proficient at painting tigers. He Lei held exhibitions in Hong Kong and Macau during the anti-Japanese war periods and established his fame in southern China. After 1949, he was appointed the director of the Guangzhou People's Fine Art Publishing House and lectured in the Department of Chinese Painting in the Guangzhou Fine Art Academy. His works are particularly collected by art lovers from Hong Kong, Macau and Southeast Asia.
