A silver kovsh
17th Century
Oval, of traditional form, the raised prow with stylized trident finial, the body chased and engraved with an old-Russian adage 'Kovshik of a good man, drink from it to your health', the inscription interspersed by reserves of foliate scrolls on stippled ground, the domed centre similarly engraved around a stylized flowerhead, the shaped raised flat handle with foliate scroll decoration, apparently unmarked
