TWO MINIATURE TRAVELLING ICONS
RUSSIAN, 19TH CENTURY
The first one depicting the Kazanskaya, modelled realistically with mild colours, the golden rims of the haloes standing out against the deep colour of the background, set in an oval silver gilt frame, the reverse marked I.G. (Cyrillics), 2¾ x 2¼ in. (7 x 5.75 cm); the other icon showing two monastic saints, each wearing the Great Schema and holding open scrolls, their Monastery in the background and a vision of the Transfiguration above, painted in enamel on a sheet of a copper and set in an oval brass mount 2¾ x 2 1/8 in. (7 x 5.5 cm) (2)
