The central medallion probably Byzantine, dating to the 12th century, showing the Mother of God Orans bust-length, on a blue enamel ground, placed in an 18th century European setting, the top decorated with a circlet of cloisonné enamel with bead and star motifs on a pale blue ground, the rim with Orthodox crosses in champlevé enamel, the base flanked with griffins, and two enamelled quatrefoils Diameter: 1 1/8 in. (2.75 cm)
