Title within a woodcut historiated and architectural border, a1r within a woodcut border with Cervicornus' device at foot, woodcut headpiece and a few initials including 5 fine and large ones from the Kinderschüle (2 wormholes, merging to one, in the text throughout). Opus erudissimum ... in quinque libros digestum, in quibus mire retegit & confutat ueterum haereseon impias ac portentosas opiniones, edited by Desiderius Erasmus. Basel: Froben, 1528. Woodcut device on title and on last page, woodcut initials, some from the Kinderschüle (a little worming in the text at beginning and end). Second edition of Irenaus' work on early Christian heretic, mostly gnostic, writers and texts. VD 16, I137; this edition not in Adams. 2 works in one volume, 2° (309 x 202mm). Contemporary blindstamped pigskin-backed wooden boards with metal clasps (small piece of wood missing from lower cover, rubbed, a few wormholes). Provenance: a few 17th-century marginalia in the first work; Graf Joseph von Rheinstein & Tattenpach (18th-century armorial bookplate and inscription on title).
