The photograph is undated but shows Churchill in his familiar wartime outfit of overcoat, Homburg hat and polka-dot bowtie, and in a typically pugnacious pose.
With various items from the 'MEMORIES AND MEMENTOS OF WINSTON SPENCER CHURCHILL' DISPLAY staged by the Oldham Worthies in association with the Primrose League, namely: 7 photographs of Churchill, the majority dating from the Great War, including one glass negative (82 x 82mm); a quantity of carte-de-visites of Lord and Lady Randolph Churchill (2,3) and various unnamed sitters, contained in a silver-trimmed morocco box; a framed VANITY FAIR CARTOON OF CHURCHILL ('WINSTON') BY 'SPY', dated 'Sept 27th 1900' (some loss to top left corner not affecting image; mount water-damaged); an autograph letter dated 'Feb 5th' from Lady Randolph Churchill to the author HELEN MATHERS (1871-1920) thanking her for her latest book Found Out and for referring to Lord Randolph Churchill in 'the most flattering terms'; an inlaid box containing various badges and medals of the Primrose League and Conservative Party, as well as commemorative medallions including a modern silver-gilt medallion commemorating Churchill's 1900 election victory in Oldham and an alloy medallion struck for the American Ladies Hospital Ship Fund in 1899 and bearing the image of the 'S.S. Maine' -- these are accompanied by a typed card reading: 'PRIMROSE LEAGUE INSIGNIA PROUDLY WORN BY MR W.S. CHURCHILL AND PERSONALLY DONATED TO THE 'EARLY LIFE' EXHIBITION; four books relating to Oldham; and three other items.
