A ROYAL MID-VICTORIAN BRASS CANOPY BED FOR VITTORIO EMANUELE II, KING OF ITALY, (1820-1878)

With a gilt and rich magenta silk damask canopy decorated with silver wire tassels, supported by spirally-turned uprights flanking the arched headboard with foliate-scroll cresting, the footboard with interlacing centred by a roundel on conforming legs and castors, the headboard with painted inventory mark 'P.P.S 1964' and a section of silk damask painted 'P.P.S. 1965', the headboard and footboard with applied maker's label R. W. Winfield. Patent.
