A SILVERED-COPPER FUNERARY MASK
CHINA, LIAO DYNASTY (907-1125)

Lot Essay

The silvered-copper funerary masks are quite rare.
Compare with a gilt-copper mask illustrated in R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol.1, Azimuth Editions, London 1994, pp.106-107, fig.31.
See also another gilt-copper mask from the collection of Monsieur Halphen sold in these Rooms, 20 November 2003, lot 450.
