FIRST EDITION OF THIS SCARCE PAMPHLET. According to American Book Prices Current, the last copy to appear at auction was sold in 1991. Faulkner's theme in his address was one common to his work: the "duty of man [is] to be responsible... if he wishes to remain free." The council was composed of 3000 farmers and businessmen from the eighteen-county district. Faulkner agreed to speak because he needed $400 for a jeep. He attacks the Federal welfare projects of the Truman administration. "ONE OF THE MOST ELUSIVE OF FAULKNER TITLES" (Peterson A33.1). Massey 832.
