[HOE, Robert, III, collector]. ROSSI, Giovanni Gherardo de, Giuseppe de LAMA, Francesco BARONI and Abate ARTEAGA. Pitture di Antonio Allegri detto Il Correggio esistenti in Parma nel Monistero di San Paolo. Parma: Bodoni for Regal Palazzo, 1800.
Three parts in one, 2o (443 x 290 mm). 35 stipple-engraved plates after Corregio (all but one in sepia) (some scattered pale spotting). Early 20th-century red half morocco, top edge gilt, others uncut (some wear along joints and at extremities). Provenance: Robert Hoe III (bookplate, his sale part III, Anderson, 17 April 1912, lot 746); Arthur Hoe (bookplate).
A LAVISH WORK ON CORREGIO, PRINTED BY THE BODONI PRESS, the three parts printing the text in Italian (by Rossi), French (by Lama) and Spanish (by Baroni and Arteaga). Robert Hoe apparently had two copies of the book: another was sold in his sale part IV, 11 November 1912, lot 825 bound in half calf, later sold at Swann Galleries, 16 April 1998, lot 28. RARE: according to American Book Prices Current, the other Hoe copy sold at Swann in 1998 is the only copy sold at auction in the last 30 years. Brooks 774.
