Contemporary red morocco gilt, spine elaborately gilt-decorated in six compartments, top edge gilt, others uncut, red morocco inner dentelles, silk brocade linings by Blanchetière-Bretault, original wrappers bound-in (some light rubbing). Provenance: George Walter Vincent Smith (bookplate, library stamp on front wrapper).

LIMITED EDITION, number 26 of 200 copies. Divided into 10 sections with separate title-pages and frontispieces, each section recounts an aspect of life for an aristocratic French woman in the 18th century and is accompanied by charming illustrations by Leloir.
