Lot Essay

Together with four others in the Uffizi, this drawing shows Fenzoni developing his composition for a picture of The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, dated by Giuseppe Scavizzi to 1614-22 and formerly with the Galleria Altomani, Pesaro (G. Scavizzi and N. Schwed, Ferraù Fenzoni, Pittore Disegnatore, p. 168, no. P56, and pp. 320-321, nos. D114-117).
