Lot Essay

James lived in Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire, and the Tate Gallery, London has his painting Winter on the Windrush which depicts a Cotswolds scene. He worked with Lutyens and only began painting seriously when he was almost 50, exhibiting at the RA, the NEAC and the Goupil Gallery.
