Lot Essay

Lots 143 to 145 are examples of Davies' most renowned and championed work - his Epiphany Series. In this series, Davies transforms classic moments of World Cup football history into colour saturated abstractions. Davies created these works by photographing stills from video footage of the World Cup from the 1930s to the present day. He preserved significant moments, or Epiphanies, classic goals and moments of unsurpassing skilful play. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1993 and his work is included in numerous important collections including Citibank, Goldman Sachs and the Museé de Elysee in Switzerland.
