A FINE EARLY 20TH CENTURY SILVER SAILING TROPHY JUG OF TANKARD FORM,
MARK OF ELKINGTON & CO., BIRMINGHAM, 1911,
On three furry ball & claw feet, the handle decorated with a trailing band of oak leaves, the pannelled cover surmounted by a finial modelled as St.George slaying the dragon, the spout chased with acanthus leaf flanked by oak & acorn sprays, a band of laurel around the base, one side with a disc chased with a galleon above the legend "The Sovereign of the Seas, 1637", inscribed below "International Cup First European International Regatta 1911, Patron King George V", 12 in. high (31 cm.), 60 oz.
