LATE 18TH CENTURY

Family tradition has always held this armoire to be from Louisiana. Louisiana was French owned in the second half of the eighteenth century (until 1803) and furniture-makers reflected this influence. Numerous armoires similar to this example survive, for example in Louisiana State Museum, New Orleans. ( see Jessie Poesch Early Furniture of Louisiana 1750-1830, 1972 )
