A large Chinese mottled brown celadon jade carving of qilin, late 19th early 20th century
the mythical beast seated on cloud scrolls, carved with glaring eyes looking forward beneath the scrolling eyebrows and above the open jaws revealing the menacing teeth, with fire scrolls along its haunches and a long tail flicked over its back, the stone of mottled grey-green tone with brown and red inclusions -- 8 7/8in. (22.5cm.) high, wood stand.
