HAZLITT, William (1778-1830). Autograph note, signature excised, to Charles Cowden Clarke, n.d., 'Convey (the wise it call) the enclosed hare & Wiltshire bacon to the most agreeable of biographers, at Highgate; & the other hamper & the article to the Editor of editors, O. S. Buckingham, Esq.' In a postscript he adds: 'Tell Henry if he has a sweet tooth that way, to detain the hogs-flesh', 1 page, oblong, laid down.
This note probably dates from the late 1810s when Clarke lived near Hazlitt in London. He was a mong the most gregarious figures in 19th century letters, boasting the friendship of not only Hazlitt, but Keats, Coleridge, Leigh Hunt, Charles and Mary Lamb, among many others.
