METASTASIO [i.e. Pietro Antonio Domenico Trapassi (1698-1782)]. Autograph letter signed to Ferrante at Cittadella [Lucca], Vienna, 1 June [17]69, on Aurelio Mansi, who has returned from a pilgrimage and sent him two songs which bring together the names Montecatini and Buonvisi, praising their composition and poetry, 2 pages, 4to on a bifolium.
Metastasio had moved from Viennain 1730 to take up the role of court poet, and initially wrote a flood of libretti and cantatas. After 1745, however, he seems to have settled into a state of unproductive ennui.
