SCHIELE, Egon (1890-1918). Autograph letter signed ('Egon Schiele') to Dr Spitzer, Hotel Goldener Lamm, Villach, 23 July 1914, one page, 4to, on a bifolium.
SCHIELE IN MONEY TROUBLE: he still has no news as to whether he is to receive some money, and how much, from [the Munich art dealer Hans] Goltz and from a dealer in Dresden [Emil Richter], and therefore does not know what is to happen with the payments he intended to settle using this money: 'jedenfalls werde ich sobald ich etwas beko[m]me augenblicklich meine Pflicht tun. -- Sollte dies aber nicht eintreffen! könnten Sie selbst nicht für mich dies bezahlen? -- wir würden uns schon ausgleichen mit einem kleineren Bild' [in any case I shall immediately do my duty as soon as I get something. -- But if this does not work out, could you yourself not pay this for me? We would soon settle up with a smallish picture'.
The hoped-for payment in fact arrived the next day, when Schiele received 100 marks from Goltz.
