RÉCAMIER, Juliette (1777-1849). Two autograph letters signed (with initials, 'J.R.'), the first to 'Prince Tuffiakin' [Tyufyakin] (at his father's address in Moscow), Angerviliers, 27 May, n.y., 3 pages, 8vo, traces of seal (small seal tear in corner of 2nd leaf, tiny splits in folds, old tape repairs); the second to the Comtesse Desroys, n.p., 'Vendredi' [8 June 1838], 1½ pages, 4to; and a secretarial letter to Madame de Brosse.
A graceful letter on Tyufyakin's return to Moscow, reminding him of his friends: 'Il y auroit véritablement de l'ingratitude a vous si vous n'aimiez pas paris, vous y avez des veritables amis ... je n'ai vu personne qui ne desirat vivement vous y voir revenir. Je ne vous parle pas de mes voeux a moi, vous ne pouvez en douter'. She gives news of several friends who share her regret his departure, and a dinner in the country 'chez Monsieur Dillon dans une espece de chaumiere dont la situation est ravissante', includes a request for news of a childhood friend in Moscow and asks him to remember her to Count Tolstoy, Princess Dolgorouka and Prince Volkonsky. The second letter apolgises for missing a social occasion, 'de perdre une occasion de passer quelques moments avec vous ... et de ne pas entendre Barante'; the secretarial letter replies to a recommendation for someone formerly in the service of the Duchesse d'Abrantes, and known to Chateaubriand.
