Lot Essay

After being disabled in the First World War, Percy Sheldrick learned to embroider at the Central School of Arts & Crafts, London, under Walter Taylor, who had worked at Morris & Co. from 1890 until 1920. Sheldrick was the master weaver at Merton Abbey for 18 years from 1921.
