Lot Essay

In a letter to the owner, dated 7 November 1990, Professor Giuliano Briganti considered this painting 'fra le opere di maggior impegno del Locatelli'. He associates the picture with the painter's mature style, noting similarities with Jan Frans van Bloemen.
