A MEISSEN GROUP OF MARS AND VENUS

Modelled by J.J. Kändler, with Mars, Venus and Cupid among clouds, Mars in a plumed helmet, pink cloak, grey breastplate, yellow tunic and green breeches, supporting an oval frame painted with putti among clouds and edged with applied coloured flowers, Venus seated nearby in a white dress and yellow flowered cloak, Cupid presenting her with a holding a basket of flowers, the clouds issuing from a waisted pedestal of shaped quatrefoil section, each side with panels of flowers within moulded gilt cartouches, flanked by applied trailing flowers (Mars with restoration to helmet plumes, left hand and sword, restoration to Venus's arms, hands, right leg above knee, Cupid's wings and arms, some restoration to clouds beneath Cupid and scrollwork to back of base)
