A very rare Steiff Somersaulting Tedy Bear
with golden mohair, black boot button eyes, pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, arms joined to the mechanism, when the left arm is turned forward it winds the bear up causing it to tumble forward, jointed legs with felt pads, hump and FF button in ear with remains of red tag, 1934-35 only --10in. (25.5cm.) high (mohair slightly matted)

Provenance
The bear was consigned on a valuation day in Stuttgart, the owner played with the Steiff family children as small girl and was given this bear by them.

Lot Essay

The first Somersault Bear was produced between 1909 and 1916, these were produced in the thousands. He was then produced again for a short period between 1934 and 1935, this time only 570 pieces were produced.
