A Chinese blue and white 'kraak porselein' dish, circa 1640
with flaring barbed rim sides rising from the slightly convex well, supported on a short tapering foot ring, the centre painted with a bird perched on rockwork beside a peony spray framed by a foliate cartouch encircled by a lappet shaped border with scale and wan grounds, the rim with lappet panels enclosing floral sprays alternating with bead and diaper panels, the undersides decorated with roundels flanked by lines -- 11in. (29.8cm.) diam.
