This lot is offered without reserve. PROPERTY OF THE FAIRMONT HOTEL, SAN FRANCISCO The Fairmont Hotel, located atop prestigious Nob Hill, first opened its doors at the turn of the 20th Century. The "great earthquake" and resulting fires of April 1906 destroyed the lavish interiors of the newly built hotel. Julia Morgan, the first female architectural graduate of L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, supervised the post-earthquake reconstruction and redecoration of the Fairmont. The Morgan interior remained intact until Dorothy Draper, the most famous decorator of her day, was commissioned to redesign the palatial structure in the mid-1940s. The Draper interior for the Fairmont remained in-situ for over 50 years.
