Lot Essay

Plain Yixing stoneware is both elegant and tasteful, and since it is both plain and susceptible to surface transformation through use, collectors view the extent of patination as part of its appeal. The patina on this bottle is exceptional, with a textural dimension added to the plain, chocolate-brown surface through a century or more of use, enhancing the surface.
