Lot Essay

The central motif of the sun indicates the artist and/or person who commissioned the interior could be an admirer of Louis XIV (France) such as Ludwig II. Furthermore, the style of the ornaments depicted is closely related to Linderhof, one of the Bavarian residences of Ludwig II. It is possible Werthmeister might have had contact with artists painting for Ludwig II or with the Company Pvessenbacher who were responsible for the majority of interior designs for the dignitary.
