AN ITALIAN 'OX-TONGUE' PARTISAN; AND A FRENCH VOUGE, IN 15TH CENTURY STYLE
The first, the head circa 1530; the second, 19th Century
The first with long flat tapering head formed with a full length medial ridge, a pair of very small basal lugs and faceted socket, on a modern haft with iron straps (chipped and pitted); the second of robust construction with sharpened leading edge, flattened toward the point, struck with a mark on one side and with rectangular socket bound by a later brass ring: on a modern haft with four iron straps (pitted, the socket rust-holed).
