A Chinese blue and white ginger jar and cover, 19th century
of ovoid form with high shoulders and a short neck, surmounted by a domed cover, painted with panels flanked by Endless Knots suspended from bats enclosing alternating scenes of birds perched on peony branches and a dignitary conversing with a lady and her attendant in a fenced garden, all between a trellis band on the shoulders and bats amidst clouds above the foot, the cover with precious objects, underglaze-blue four-character Kangxi mark -- 8¼in. (20.9cm.) high.
