Lot Essay

Furniture of this type has often been attributed to Denmark or Schelswig-Holstein/Altona, as the later was Danish territory in the second quarter of the 18th century. This region was later ceded to Prussia in the mid-19th century. A related bureau cabinet is illustrated in H. Kreisel and G. Himmelheber, Die Kunst des Deutschen Mobels, Spatsbarock und Rokoko, Munich 1983, fig. 860.
