Lot Essay

The gadrooned shaped upper section can be related to another gueridon sold Sotheby's London, 6 December, lot 136. Another table illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, C. Costanzi, M. Massa, Il tempo del bello - Leopardi e il Neoclassico tra le Marche e Roma, 1998, n. 99, depicts a centre table in Palazzo dei Priori, Fermo, which - due to its shape - was probably conceived as a large jardiniere with its gadrooned tazza. Related to the table here offered, this table is typical of the production executed for the neapolitan court during the first decades of the 19th century.
