Shin, who lives in San Francisco, graduated from Hong Ik University, Seoul, in 1967 and received his MA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1974. He had one-person exhibitions at the San Francisco Art Institute, in 1975, at the Scope Gallery, Los Angeles, in 1983, at the Korean Cultural Service, Los Angeles, in 1984, at the Dong San Bang Gallery, Seoul, in 1985 and 1987 and at the Gana Art Gallery, Seoul, in 1999. His work was exhibited in Tokyo in 1991. He taught painting at Hong Ik University in 1989.
