Each oviform example painted in the manner of Josiah Rushton with oval portraits of peasant girls in wooded landscapes, within oval cartouches enriched with seeded raised-gilt laurel leaves, the reverse with a tooled gilt spray of leaves, with berried husk loop handles, on canted circular plinth bases

Lot Essay

This type of portrait painting proved popular at Royal Worcester from the 1860's through to the late 1870's. The rich paste gilding is similar in style to that by Eduard Béjot.
